Developing a Quality Web Site with Quality Content

Well firstly I will begin with the most fundamental premise of making a site. For any site to be popular a general gauge of its potential success is – how useful is it to the people browsing the web, and in particular is your site something that is useful enough to warrant those that visit your site to come back. If you look at the vast majority of popular sites they are not just popular because of great search engine rankings and a wonderful marketing campaign but because of the quality of their content and site itself. This noted, there are many sites out there that are semi-popular yet don’t offer a great deal of quality content yet have optimized their sites to be well position in search engines etc, however these means of gaining popularity are very short term orientated as search engines recognize these sites that don’t offer quality content. Search engines such as Google have algorithms that are progressively weeding out the illegitimate sites that are exploiting the rankings systems rather than focusing on developing a quality site, this is why Google is considered the best search engine – because it drops all the bogus sites to deliver its users the best results for their search. Even Google is all about delivering a ‘quality’ service and look how popular it is because of it.

There is an old saying on the web that ‘content is king’ this stands true today, but a more accurate statement might be ‘quality content is king’. In addition to this sometimes the best means of advertising will always be word of mouth. If people stumble across your site and are truly impressed by it to the point where they begin to spread the word soon the number of loyal visitors to your site will growth with it, and the growth will be more exponential than gradual due to the more people advertising the faster it grows. So a reputation of quality and reliability is essential for gaining a loyal visitor base and with this comes essentially free and the easiest form of advertising.

So that is lesson one, if you are going to make a site it’s important that it’s useful to a target audience and that it is a site of quality content or service rather than a site looking to exploit rankings.
